The last four days were spent monitoring our wildlife camera. The hedgehog was a continuous presence, as were visits from a tiny field mouse, a brown rat, a blackbird and their fledgling, another small bird and of course the magpies. What became clear in this current hot weather is how absolutely important water for these animals is. The hedgehog drank from the water bowl several times in one night, and we have a video clip of the tiny mouse drinking there too.
Here is our thirsty hedgehog friend!
If you can, please provide water for wildlife in your garden. Natural water sources are becoming increasingly scarce and the current hot weather makes things even more difficult for them. Most of us dog people provide water bowls for our dogs every day so it's only a small step to do this for our garden friends as well. They will thank you for this a thousand times over!
