Today's World Ocean Day got me thinking how far away from the sea we live. In fact, Milton Keynes is one of the places furthest away from the sea, only a few miles behind Coton in the Elms in Derbyshire, which is the record holder in the UK with 70 miles away. Thus seaside visits and beach holidays are a rare treat. Fortunately, we were able to spend a week in the Netherlands not long ago, where we could explore beautiful sandy beaches and get familiar with the wildlife of these very special places.
As a souvenir I collected a number of seashells. Back home, I was trying to identify them and that's when the Seek app came in handy. The app told me I had collected two clams and one cockle shell and added further interesting information on the two. Hopefully we will be able to collect more shells on another trip to the seaside soon!
