Day 29

The weather continues to be warm and sunny, so any dog walks are to be taken in the shade. Luckily we have a wide range of different walking routes on our doorstep and over the years we have got to know a walk for any type of weather. So today we headed to Akeley Wood and walked along the bridleway which is completely in the shade and pleasantly cool in hot weather. As it is normally for horses not many people walk there but the woods are always great for spotting plants at any time of year. The most spectacular are the vast swatches of bluebells the location is well known for, but in early summer many foxgloves line the footpath through the woods. We were lucky to spot one right next to where we were walking.

Although foxgloves are striking garden plants and beloved by bees and other pollinators please remember they are toxic to dogs, cats and even humans if ingested. Learn more about the health risks here.
