Day 2

Many people who live with dogs have a garden. Even if they don't they may have a balcony or small patio. That makes it perfect for dog people to watch wildlife in their own private green spaces. Today was a warm and sunny day so I decided to spend some time in the garden. Today's 30 Days Wild theme was butterflies and I thought I could combine some gardening with looking for these colourful friends. Sadly, despite several hours in the garden, I spotted just one butterfly, a Small White. Maybe it was too cold until recently and too wet for many butterflies to show up but to be honest I think this is consistent with the decline in butterflies I have observed in recent years. We do have butterfly-friendly plants in the garden, most importantly a buddleia, aka butterfly bush!

I hope there will be more butterflies when the buddleia is in full bloom but I think I will have to wait a month or two. As they say 'patience is a virtue'! Do join us again tomorrow.
